Parents in Lagos are increasingly turning to strategic planning when travelling by air with infants, as concerns over flight disruptions and passenger comfort continue to rise. The trend was observed on Friday, following reports of heightened anxiety among families preparing for domestic and international journeys during school breaks.

Many parents now opt to book flights that match their babies’ natural sleep patterns, especially early morning or late evening departures, in a bid to reduce mid-flight distress. Travellers are also requesting bassinet seats where available, with some airlines offering these amenities on long-haul routes. According to travel consultants in Ikeja, such measures help minimise disturbances and make the journey smoother for both parents and other passengers.

The shift comes amid growing awareness of the stress associated with flying with infants, particularly in crowded airports like Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Stakeholders note that noise complaints from other travellers and the unpredictability of feeding times often deter families from air travel. “Planning your journey around your child’s routine is now considered essential,” said a travel agent in Lagos.

While some aviation experts have welcomed the proactive approach, others urge airlines to increase support by providing family-friendly policies. A representative from a local airline stated that demand for bassinet seats has grown steadily this year. However, not all carriers offer such services on short-haul flights, leaving some parents to rely on portable baby gear.

With summer holidays approaching, industry observers expect more families will embrace these strategies. Parents are advised to confirm available facilities before booking and allow extra time at the airport for check-in procedures involving infants.
