The Delta State Police Command on Monday decorated 457 newly promoted officers at a ceremony held at its headquarters in Asaba, with Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi charging the beneficiaries to uphold discipline and enhance the image of the Nigeria Police Force. The officers, who were elevated from Constable to Corporal, received their new ranks in the presence of senior police officials and well-wishers.

During his address, CP Oyeniyi congratulated the newly promoted personnel, describing their advancement as a direct result of their loyalty, commitment, and dedication to duty. He stated that promotion is a key milestone in every police officer’s career, noting that it signifies trust and confidence from the leadership of the force. “This elevation comes with higher expectations and increased responsibilities. You must justify this confidence through exemplary conduct and renewed dedication to your duties,” Oyeniyi said.

The Commissioner further called on the officers to remain steadfast in upholding professionalism, integrity, and discipline at all times. He stressed that their behaviour on and off duty should reflect positively on the police, especially as public trust remains critical for effective policing in Delta State and across Nigeria.

The decoration ceremony comes at a time when security agencies nationwide are under pressure to restore public confidence amidst concerns about rising insecurity and calls for police reform.
