Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has undergone successful surgery on his Achilles tendon in Oslo, Norway, and is expected to be sidelined for at least three months. The procedure was carried out earlier this week after Ogbu sustained the injury during a training session with his Norwegian club.
The centre-back, who plays for Lillestrøm SK in the Eliteserien, suffered the setback in early June, forcing him to miss both club fixtures and Nigeria’s upcoming international engagements. Medical officials overseeing Ogbu’s treatment have indicated that he will begin rehabilitation immediately, with a projected return to full fitness by September.
Ogbu’s absence comes at a crucial time for the Super Eagles as Nigeria prepares for key Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches and other international competitions. The defender has been a consistent presence in Coach Finidi George’s squad and was expected to feature prominently in the team’s summer fixtures. His recovery timeline means he will likely miss at least four club matches and Nigeria’s next round of qualifiers.
Team doctors expressed optimism regarding his prognosis, stating that the surgery was without complications and that Ogbu’s youth and fitness level will aid his recovery. Meanwhile, Lillestrøm SK confirmed their support for the player through his rehabilitation period.
