The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Director General Bukola Olopade, has dissolved the boards of all national para sports federations across Nigeria with immediate effect. The announcement was made on Sunday in Abuja, as the commission moves to begin a fresh electoral process for new leadership in the federations.
The affected bodies include the Amputee Football Federation, Para Athletics Federation, Para Powerlifting Federation, Para Swimming Federation, Para Soccer Federation and Para Volleyball Federation. All previous board members, inaugurated on 20 July 2022, have been relieved of their duties as at Sunday, with transition plans to be announced by NSC officials in the coming weeks.
According to a statement issued by the NSC and made available in Abuja, the dissolution is part of efforts to ensure a more transparent and credible election process for incoming executives. The commission stated that this move aims to strengthen governance and improve administrative oversight within Nigeria’s para sports sector.
“The outgoing boards have played significant roles in providing leadership and direction for para sports development in our country,” NSC Director General Bukola Olopade said in the statement. He expressed appreciation to all outgoing presidents, vice presidents and board members for their dedication and service over the past two years.
The NSC has assured stakeholders that detailed guidelines for fresh elections will be released soon. The commission also encouraged all interested parties to participate actively as it seeks to reposition para sports administration in Nigeria.

TCN’s engagement follows a surge in reported cases of vandalism targeting electricity transmission lines and substations in the region, which have led to repeated blackouts and significant repair costs. During the sessions held in Abakaliki and other affected LGAs, TCN representatives emphasised that destruction of infrastructure not only disrupts power supply but also undermines local businesses and social amenities.
The push to safeguard national assets comes as Nigeria’s power sector grapples with chronic instability, worsened by frequent attacks on installations. According to TCN officials, repairs following acts of vandalism have diverted substantial resources that could otherwise be used for network upgrades or improved service delivery. “We are appealing to community stakeholders to take ownership of these facilities,” a senior TCN engineer told participants at one event.
Community leaders in attendance expressed concern over the negative impact of outages on daily life and pledged to collaborate with security agencies to monitor suspicious activities around installations.
