The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) on Monday donated bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Lagos State Strategic Command, aiming to enhance the safety of officers involved in ongoing anti-drug operations. The handover ceremony took place in Lagos, with senior officials from both LSSTF and NDLEA present.

Presenting the equipment on behalf of the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, Mr Adegbola Lewis, Director of Administration at the Fund, said the donation formed part of sustained efforts to support security agencies in Lagos. The items were officially received by Assistant Commander-General of Narcotics (ACGN) Abubakar Liman Wali, who leads the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command.

According to Lewis, the provision of bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets is intended to protect frontline NDLEA personnel as they carry out raids and enforcement actions against drug trafficking networks across the state. He reiterated LSSTF’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with all security agencies operating in Lagos, noting that officer safety remains a top priority given recent threats faced during narcotics operations.

Speaking during the presentation, NDLEA’s Head of Media and Advocacy for Lagos Command, Assistant Commander of Narcotics (ACN) Mallum Musa, commended LSSTF for prioritising officer welfare. Musa said: “This gesture will go a long way in motivating our men and enhancing operational effectiveness.” Other officials in attendance included NDLEA Lagos Public Relations Officer ASN Azeez Akinsola.

Security analysts note that law enforcement personnel in Nigeria continue to face significant risks during field operations, particularly as drug cartels adopt more sophisticated tactics. The latest donation follows similar support from LSSTF to other agencies such as the police and underscores mounting concerns over officer vulnerability amid rising insecurity in urban centres.

NDLEA officials have promised that the new equipment will be promptly deployed during scheduled operations throughout Lagos metropolis. Stakeholders expect further inter-agency collaboration as authorities intensify efforts to disrupt illicit drug activities and safeguard both security operatives and residents.
