Lagride, a Lagos-based ride-hailing platform, has reported that some drivers are now earning as much as ₦1 million weekly through its Drive-to-Own vehicle financing scheme. The company made this known during the second phase of vehicle handover at its Alausa hub in Lagos on Tuesday, where another batch of drivers received cars under the initiative.
The Drive-to-Own programme allows drivers to move from operating leased vehicles to becoming full owners through structured repayments. During the event, six participating drivers shared that the scheme has helped them achieve more predictable earnings and greater financial stability while working towards outright ownership of their vehicles. They also described improvements in long-term wealth creation and family welfare as a result of their participation.
Launched to address asset ownership challenges among professional drivers in Lagos, the programme comes at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with rising transport costs and limited access to vehicle financing. The handover ceremony was attended by representatives from the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), First Pension Custodian Nigeria Limited and Avis Nigeria, showing broad institutional support for the scheme.
Mildred Ekanem, Executive Director of Lagride who spoke on behalf of Chairman Diana Chen at the event, said the Drive-to-Own programme aligns with the company’s wider goal of empowering transport workers while modernising urban mobility in Lagos. Ekanem noted that predictable income and eventual asset ownership would help drivers build a sustainable future in the sector. Representatives from government agencies present commended Lagride’s approach, saying it could serve as a model for similar initiatives across other states.
With more drivers set to benefit as additional vehicles are handed over in coming months, Lagride said it would continue collaborating with public and private partners to expand access and ensure compliance with road safety regulations. Stakeholders expressed optimism that such schemes could boost employment and contribute to economic growth in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Kebbi State has witnessed a surge in security challenges over recent months, with rising concerns about insurgent infiltration from neighbouring states and sporadic attacks attributed to armed groups. Security analysts say that the arrest of these suspects could disrupt planned operations by insurgents in the state and improve residents’ confidence in government efforts to restore peace.
Police authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of each suspect’s involvement and whether they have direct links to previous attacks or are part of broader logistics networks supporting Boko Haram’s activities. The police have assured that all those found culpable will be prosecuted according to Nigerian law.
