Security agency says girl fled after months of abuse; case transferred to Gender Unit for full investigation
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested a 40-year-old man, AbdulRauf Ambali, for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter in Alapa, Asa Local Government Area. The arrest was made following credible reports from concerned residents, according to the command’s statement on Wednesday.
NSCDC Commandant in Kwara, Abbas Nda-Muhammed, explained that the matter was initially reported at the Alapa Divisional Office on 16 June before being handed over to the Command’s Gender Unit. Ambali first contacted the NSCDC claiming his daughter had been missing from home for three weeks, prompting operatives to begin a search. The minor was eventually traced and brought in for questioning.
During interrogation, the girl disclosed that she left her father’s house deliberately after suffering alleged months of sexual abuse and intimidation. Preliminary findings revealed she had lived with her grandmother since childhood but was taken into her father’s custody in December 2025 under the guise of parental care.
Commandant Nda-Muhammed said the NSCDC is committed to pursuing a thorough investigation into the allegations. “We received information from members of the public and swung into action immediately,” he said. As at press time, no charges have been filed yet while investigations continue.
Cases of sexual violence against minors remain a major concern across Nigeria, with stakeholders calling for stronger protection measures and swift prosecution of offenders. The NSCDC urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse or gender-based violence to relevant authorities.

Experts recommend that seniors begin by ensuring their Nigerian passport remains valid for at least six months beyond their planned return date. If renewal is needed, travellers are advised to start the process three to four months ahead of intended departure due to possible administrative delays.
Health considerations also play a major role. Prospective travellers are encouraged to consult their doctors for medical clearance and update routine vaccinations where required by destination countries. Some nations mandate proof of yellow fever vaccination or recent COVID-19 booster certificates for entry.
A travel consultant with a leading Ikeja-based agency stated: “Older clients often underestimate how much paperwork is involved. We always tell them to assemble documents early—passport, visas if needed, hotel bookings and insurance.” The consultant added that thorough planning helps reduce stress and ensures compliance with immigration rules overseas.
Many seniors are drawn to nearby destinations such as Ghana due to shorter flights and familiar cultural ties, while others opt for Europe or the Middle East for tourism and family visits. Agencies advise budgeting for medical insurance and emergency contacts abroad. With proper preparation and early documentation, Lagos seniors can look forward to safe and enjoyable international experiences.
