Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Declares Victory, Calls for Unity After Governorship Election
APC candidate extends olive branch to Oluyede, Bejide and other rivals in post-election speech in Ado-Ekiti
APC candidate extends olive branch to Oluyede, Bejide and other rivals in post-election speech in Ado-Ekiti
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State delivered his victory speech on Sunday, following the conclusion of the 2026 governorship election in the state. Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, Oyebanji, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), extended what he described as ‘hands of fellowship’ to his main opponents — Oluyede, Bejide and others — urging them to join him in moving the state forward.
The governor’s remarks came shortly after electoral officials announced the final results, confirming his return to office for a second term. Addressing supporters and stakeholders at the government house, Oyebanji expressed appreciation to residents of Ekiti for their peaceful conduct during the polls and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance. He specifically called on opposition candidates to set aside political differences for the benefit of all citizens.
The election, which drew attention across South-West Nigeria, was closely watched by political observers given Ekiti’s history of fiercely contested polls. In previous cycles, aggrieved parties have often challenged outcomes in court or staged parallel celebrations. This year’s poll was seen as a test of APC’s influence in the region ahead of national elections.
In his statement, Governor Oyebanji acknowledged the contributions of his rivals and invited them to work together towards development goals. “We must put politics aside now that the people have spoken,” he said. There was no immediate response from Oluyede or Bejide at press time.
Observers say attention will now shift to how opposition parties respond and whether any legal petitions will be filed. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to issue certificates of return later this week.

CDCFIB Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment in Abuja, Threatens Prosecution
Board cautions job seekers about fraudulent adverts, vows legal action against perpetrators to safeguard public interest
Board cautions job seekers about fraudulent adverts, vows legal action against perpetrators to safeguard public interest
The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has issued a strong warning to Nigerians, especially residents of Abuja, regarding the circulation of fake recruitment information for its agencies. The alert was raised on Sunday, 21 June 2026, as the board cautioned job seekers not to fall victim to fraudsters promoting non-existent employment opportunities.
According to the CDCFIB, several unauthorised platforms have recently shared false adverts claiming that vacancies exist within the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The board clarified that no official recruitment exercise is ongoing at this time and any contrary information should be disregarded by the public.
The CDCFIB explained that these fraudulent announcements are designed to exploit desperate job seekers by luring them into paying illegal fees or submitting personal details to unknown individuals. The board emphasised that all legitimate recruitments are announced solely through its verified communication channels and official government websites.
In a statement released in Abuja, the CDCFIB warned that anyone caught spreading or benefitting from such fraudulent recruitment schemes will face prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law. “We advise Nigerians to be vigilant and not allow themselves to be deceived by scammers. Any person found culpable will be prosecuted,” the statement read.
The board further urged members of the public seeking genuine information about employment opportunities within its agencies to consult only official sources. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and said it would continue working with security agencies to identify and prosecute offenders involved in fake recruitment activities.

Mob in Delta State Seizes Suspect from Police Custody, Lynches Woman over Alleged Child Theft
Incident raises fresh concerns about vigilante justice and police effectiveness as authorities warn against mob action
Incident raises fresh concerns about vigilante justice and police effectiveness as authorities warn against mob action
A mob in Delta State forcefully took a female suspect from police custody and lynched her on Sunday, following allegations that she attempted to steal a child. The incident occurred in one of the communities within the state, highlighting ongoing issues around mob justice and public trust in law enforcement.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman was arrested by police after being accused of attempting to abduct a minor. While officers were transporting her to the station, a crowd reportedly overpowered the police team, dragging the suspect away before subjecting her to a violent attack that led to her death at the scene.
Cases of jungle justice remain prevalent in many parts of Nigeria, especially where residents believe security agencies are unable or unwilling to effectively prosecute suspected criminals. Human rights advocates have repeatedly warned that such actions not only violate due process but also risk punishing innocent persons without trial.
Police authorities in Delta State have condemned the act and restated that any form of mob action is unlawful. “We urge community members to always allow law enforcement agencies carry out proper investigations. Taking laws into your own hands will not be tolerated,” an officer said. No official confirmation has been given regarding arrests related to the incident as at press time.
The latest episode is likely to prompt renewed calls for security sector reforms and public sensitisation on the dangers of vigilante justice. Authorities are expected to intensify awareness campaigns while investigating both the alleged child theft and those responsible for the lynching.

GehGeh Questions Peller’s Readiness for Marriage After Bride Price Payment in Lagos
Social media personality raises concern over TikTok star’s mental and emotional preparedness following marriage move
Social media personality raises concern over TikTok star’s mental and emotional preparedness following marriage move
Social media influencer Ojaigho Prosper, popularly known as GehGeh, has questioned the readiness of TikTok sensation Habeeb Hamzat (widely called Peller) to enter into marriage after news broke that he paid the bride price of his partner, Elizabeth Aminata (Jarvis), in Lagos on Sunday. GehGeh made this known in a reaction posted on X, querying whether Peller was prepared mentally and emotionally for the responsibilities that come with marriage.
Peller, who enjoys a large following on TikTok for his comedic skits and live sessions, reportedly completed traditional marriage rites for Jarvis, also known as Jadrolita, over the weekend. The event drew attention from fans online, with many congratulating the couple while others expressed concern about their age and maturity.
The development has sparked conversation among young Nigerians about the pressures of early marriage and the influence of social media personalities. GehGeh’s post specifically asked if Peller was truly ready to navigate marital life beyond the excitement of an elaborate traditional ceremony. For many observers, this move by two popular content creators has amplified debates about emotional preparedness and expectations placed on public figures in relationships.
While neither Peller nor Jarvis has issued an official statement addressing GehGeh’s concerns or the wider public reaction, their union remains a trending topic on Nigerian social platforms. Some commentators urged caution among young couples rushing into marriage due to societal or online pressures, while others argued that personal decisions should not be subjected to outside scrutiny.
As at press time, fans continue to share mixed reactions under related posts on X and Instagram. The situation underscores ongoing conversations about youth culture, celebrity influence, and evolving attitudes towards marriage within Nigeria’s digital community.
