The Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos has adjourned the ongoing case involving a 42-year-old Point of Sale (PoS) operator, Kafayat Morayo Salami, who is accused of fraudulent transaction totalling ₦1 million. The matter, brought by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, was postponed on Monday under the directive of Chief Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje.

Court records show that Salami was earlier remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Facility on May 4, 2026, where she spent sixteen days before securing bail. The alleged fraud centres on a financial transaction initiated by Peace Godwin, a 15-year-old said to be acting on the instruction of her mother, Sergeant Ruth Umar, attached to Ago-Okota Police Division. According to Salami, the teenager requested a transfer of ₦645,000 to a First Bank account and collected ₦100,000 in cash from her PoS stand in Lagos on April 13, leaving an outstanding balance of ₦234,000.

The following day, two police officers reportedly confronted Salami regarding the disputed sum. She was subsequently arrested and detained at Ago-Okota Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba. Salami spent eight days in police custody before her release on April 22.

The case has raised concerns among small business operators in Lagos who rely on PoS transactions for daily income. Legal observers note that such disputes highlight challenges faced by fintech agents navigating trust and accountability issues in cash-based environments.

Chief Magistrate Kubeinje did not disclose a new hearing date at the adjournment. The police prosecution is expected to present further evidence when proceedings resume. Stakeholders say the outcome could set precedents for handling similar allegations involving security officials and financial service providers in Lagos State.
