Offer comes after Xenergi’s emergence as core investor, signaling major ownership shift in Nigeria’s paint industry

Xenergi, the new core investor in Premier Paints Plc, has initiated a tender offer for the company’s minority shares as part of a fresh ownership restructuring in Ogun State. The move was confirmed on Wednesday, 17 June, as Xenergi seeks to consolidate its position following its recent acquisition of controlling interest in the leading Nigerian paint manufacturer.

According to details made available, Xenergi’s tender offer is targeted at shareholders holding minority stakes, with the aim of acquiring additional shares to strengthen its grip on Premier Paints’ operations. This development follows Xenergi’s earlier stake purchase that positioned it as the largest single shareholder in the company. The transaction is expected to trigger a significant change in Premier Paints’ board and management structure.

Premier Paints Plc, based in Ogun State and listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), has faced stiff competition from bigger players within the manufacturing sector. Industry analysts say Xenergi’s entry could signal renewed investment and possible turnaround for the company, which has struggled with market share and operational challenges over recent years.

The management of Premier Paints confirmed receipt of Xenergi’s offer in an official statement, noting that all regulatory procedures would be followed in line with NGX rules. “We assure all shareholders that their interests will be protected throughout this process,” a company representative said. Shareholders are expected to receive further communication regarding terms and timelines of the tender.

Market watchers believe Xenergi’s aggressive approach may lead to delisting or a significant reorganisation of Premier Paints, depending on acceptance levels among minority shareholders. Analysts further predict ripple effects across Nigeria’s paints and coatings sector as new capital and management expertise flow into Premier Paints through this transaction.

The decisive clash in Nigeria’s oldest football competition will determine the country’s representative for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup

El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno State and Lagos-based Ikorodu City are preparing for a high-stakes battle as they meet in the final of the President Federation Cup, Nigeria’s oldest football knockout competition. The showdown, scheduled for Wednesday, 17 June 2026, will determine who lifts this year’s prestigious trophy and secures continental football next season.

Both clubs advanced through a series of tough fixtures to book their places in the final. El-Kanemi Warriors, with a history of strong performances in Nigerian domestic football, will be seeking to add another major title to their cabinet. Ikorodu City, a team that has steadily climbed the ranks in recent seasons, is looking to make history by clinching their first Federation Cup crown.

The President Federation Cup, formerly known as the FA Cup and later Aiteo Cup, remains a crucial event on Nigeria’s football calendar. The winner not only claims silverware but also earns the right to represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup. With this added incentive, both teams are expected to approach the final with determination and tactical discipline.

Officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and fair contest. Security measures will be heightened at the venue as fans from Borno and Lagos converge to cheer their teams. As at press time, neither club had released official statements on their matchday squads, but anticipation is running high among supporters on both sides.

The outcome of this encounter will have significant implications for both clubs’ ambitions on the domestic and continental stage. Whichever side emerges victorious will carry Nigeria’s hopes into African competition next season.

Arrival of Italian chef in Victoria Island signals fresh push for international recognition in Nigeria’s hospitality sector

The Delborough Lagos, a leading luxury hotel located in Victoria Island, has announced the arrival of Michelin-starred chef Sauro Bison to head its signature dining destination, DANI Restaurant. The move was confirmed by the hotel management on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the ongoing quest to position Lagos as a top-tier destination for world-class hospitality experiences.

According to the announcement, Chef Bison’s appointment is expected to elevate both the culinary standards and profile of The Delborough Lagos, further enhancing its reputation for luxury and premium service. The Italian chef, celebrated internationally for his innovative cuisine and prestigious accolades, is now set to lead the culinary team at DANI Restaurant. Hotel representatives described his arrival as a milestone that underscores their commitment to bringing global excellence to Nigeria’s hospitality industry.

Industry observers say the decision reflects growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s upscale hotel and restaurant market, especially as local brands seek to attract international guests and affluent Nigerians with exclusive offerings. In recent years, Lagos has seen increased competition among high-end hotels aiming to distinguish themselves through unique dining experiences and renowned chefs.

While The Delborough Lagos did not immediately release details on any upcoming menu changes or special events tied to Chef Bison’s arrival, the management expressed optimism that this development would draw attention from food enthusiasts and travellers across Africa. Stakeholders in the hospitality sector have welcomed the move as evidence of Nigeria’s capacity to host globally recognised talent.

As at press time, Chef Bison had assumed his new role at DANI Restaurant. Industry watchers expect his presence will spur further innovations in Lagos’ luxury dining scene, with potential knock-on effects for tourism and related sectors.

Katsina Shuts POS Centres, Bans Jerrycan Fuel Sales and Restricts Motorcycles in Two LGAs Amid Banditry Surge

Governor Radda issues executive order after emergency meeting with security agencies; residents limited to direct vehicle fuel purchases

The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) centres and commercial phone-charging businesses in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas, imposed a state-wide ban on the sale and transport of petrol in jerrycans, and restricted motorcycle movement in the two affected LGAs. The measures, announced on Monday via an executive order signed by Governor Dikko Umar Radda (APC), follow an emergency security meeting with law enforcement agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

According to the new directive, all POS outlets and phone-charging businesses in Matazu and Musawa must cease operations immediately. In addition, motorcycles are now prohibited from operating within both LGAs. Across Katsina’s 34 local government areas, residents are banned from purchasing or transporting petrol in jerrycans, though buying fuel directly into vehicle tanks at filling stations remains permitted.

Government said these steps were necessary to tackle rising banditry and criminal activities that have continued to threaten communities across the North-West state. Intelligence reports indicate that informal financial services such as POS have been exploited by criminal groups for funding, while petrol smuggled in jerrycans is frequently used to fuel motorcycles and generators operated by armed men hiding in forests. The restriction on motorcycles targets the mobility advantage enjoyed by bandits who often use them to evade security patrols across rural areas.

“These measures are aimed at disrupting the support networks of criminal elements by cutting off their access to funds, fuel supplies and easy movement,” Governor Radda said in a statement accompanying the order. Security officials have long argued that portable fuel sales enable bandits to sustain attacks despite ongoing military operations. The opposition could not be immediately reached for comment on the new restrictions.

Katsina has faced persistent insecurity, including attacks on villages, kidnappings for ransom and cattle rustling. Many residents have abandoned farms and businesses due to fear of violence. Authorities say this latest move was informed by intelligence assessments and consultations with local leaders. The government maintains that while these restrictions may inconvenience some law-abiding residents—especially those in rural communities with limited banking access—they are essential for restoring peace.

Security agencies are expected to step up enforcement of the order in coming days, with surveillance intensified around filling stations and border communities. The state government says it will review the effectiveness of these measures regularly as part of broader efforts to secure lives and property across Katsina.
