Bureau launches digital asset declaration platform as part of wider push for transparency across federal public service

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has concluded verification of asset declarations submitted by 19 ministers, 37 permanent secretaries, 20 heads of government agencies and 32 other senior public officers in Abuja. The chairman of the Bureau, Dr Abdullahi Usman Bello, announced the development on Wednesday during the close-out ceremony for Agora Policy’s Policy Writing Fellowship and the unveiling of the Local Governance Accountability Portal.

According to Bello, this verification exercise targeted high-risk categories of public officials as part of CCB’s renewed efforts to strengthen integrity checks within Nigeria’s Federal Public Service. He explained that the process was a key element in enforcing compliance with asset declaration laws and enhancing accountability among top government functionaries.

The chairman further revealed that CCB’s long-awaited Online Asset and Liabilities Declaration System has now been fully developed and is ready for deployment and testing. The digital platform, he said, will serve as a central repository for asset and liability disclosures by public servants nationwide, improving record management and efficiency in accessing information. Bello noted that digitising asset declaration will also reduce delays and loopholes associated with manual processes.

“This online system marks a significant step forward in our mission to promote transparency in governance,” Bello said at the event in Abuja. He stressed that CCB would continue to prioritise enforcement against non-compliance while encouraging voluntary adherence among officials. No opposition or independent expert response was available as at press time.

With the new digital system set to be rolled out soon, observers say it could set a new standard for transparency in public office and make it easier for anti-corruption agencies to track assets held by senior officials. The Bureau is expected to monitor compliance closely as more categories of public officers are brought under regular review.

Bank pledges financing and business advisory for recycling, waste management and sustainable manufacturing enterprises

Keystone Bank Limited has introduced the EcoCycle Account in Lagos, targeting businesses across Nigeria’s growing green economy. The initiative was unveiled on Wednesday by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hassan Imam, as the bank moves to support enterprises engaged in recycling, waste management and eco-friendly manufacturing amid increasing demand for sustainable solutions.

According to Keystone Bank, the EcoCycle Account is designed to provide working capital, equipment financing and expansion funding on competitive terms for businesses operating within the circular economy. In addition to financial support, account holders will benefit from business advisory services and capacity-building opportunities through the bank’s MSME Online Academy.

The move comes as Nigeria witnesses a surge in entrepreneurs seeking opportunities in transforming waste materials into commercial products. However, many green businesses have struggled to access tailored financing required to scale their operations. Keystone Bank said its new offering aims to bridge this gap by supporting innovation and economic growth within the sector.

Imam stated that the EcoCycle Account forms part of Keystone Bank’s broader commitment to sustainability and inclusive growth. He explained that by combining funding options with training resources, the bank intends to equip business owners with both financial leverage and technical know-how needed for success in an evolving market.

Industry observers note that such initiatives could accelerate Nigeria’s adoption of circular economy practices while creating jobs and reducing environmental impact. As at press time, stakeholders in the green sector have welcomed the development as a step towards easing barriers faced by eco-focused micro, small and medium enterprises across the country.
