Founder Onyedinma Ikechukwu says initiative targets children’s creativity as programme expands from Lagos and Port Harcourt to Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory is set to welcome the Season 3 Abuja Edition of the Genius Chess TV Quiz Show, a fast-rising educational platform aimed at boosting intellectual development and strategic thinking among children. The event will take place in Abuja on June 29 and 30, following recent editions in Port Harcourt and Lagos this June.

According to organisers, the Abuja leg marks a significant milestone as the show pushes its reach beyond southern cities, with previous Season 3 editions successfully held in Port Harcourt on June 12 and in Lagos from June 18 to 22. The initiative seeks to harness chess as a tool for academic excellence, providing young Nigerians with practical opportunities to develop critical reasoning skills through televised competitions.

The programme was founded by Onyedinma Ikechukwu, widely known as Mr. Tender Chess. Reflecting on the journey since its inception in 2023, Ikechukwu stated that the show has now completed four episodes across two seasons and is currently witnessing its most ambitious expansion yet. He described the ongoing third season as proof of growing interest and support for child-focused intellectual contests nationwide.

Chess education advocates argue that such initiatives are essential in Nigeria’s evolving education sector, where emphasis on creative problem-solving is increasingly prioritised alongside traditional academic achievement. Stakeholders say projects like Genius Chess TV Quiz Show can help bridge learning gaps while preparing children for competitive futures both locally and internationally.

The Abuja edition is expected to feature participants from various schools within the FCT, with winners likely to receive recognition and support for further development. Organisers say plans are underway to bring subsequent editions to more Nigerian cities. As at press time, government officials had not issued a formal response regarding potential partnership or endorsement of the programme.

Tolulope Medebem leads experiential marketing stakeholders to Akwa Ibom, stresses partnerships amid digital disruption

The Experiential Marketers Association of Nigeria (EXMAN) will convene its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from July 16 to 19, with a renewed focus on industry collaboration and raising standards across Nigeria’s experience economy. Themed “Collaboration as Currency”, the four-day event is set to draw agency leaders, brand managers, marketing professionals, academics and students from across the country.

According to EXMAN, this year’s AGM underscores the association’s role as the sectoral body for experiential marketing before the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and within the broader marketing communications landscape. The gathering will feature keynote addresses, strategy sessions and networking opportunities designed to strengthen ties between agencies and brands confronting rapid digital changes and economic challenges.

President of EXMAN, Tolulope Medebem, said the association is championing a culture of partnership in order to help members navigate disruptions in the market. “In today’s interconnected world, collaboration has become the currency of growth. No agency, institution or brand can thrive in isolation. The future belongs to those who build partnerships, share knowledge and create value together,” Agnes Ailuelohia, Chairman of the AGM Planning Committee, said in a statement released ahead of the event.

Publicity Secretary of EXMAN, Olayiwola Jegede, noted that hosting the AGM in Uyo reflects efforts to decentralise industry activities from Lagos and boost engagement across regions. He added that participants will deliberate on ways experiential marketers can adapt global best practices locally while fostering knowledge-sharing among established players and emerging professionals.

The AGM is expected to conclude with a communiqué outlining new commitments on collaboration and professional ethics for experiential marketing agencies operating under ARCON guidelines. Organisers say outcomes will help position Nigerian marketers for sustained relevance as digital transformation continues to reshape consumer engagement nationwide.

Company says installation of new palm kernel oil mill to finish by Q3 2026 as livestock operations expand

Ellah Lakes Plc, an indigenous agribusiness firm, has announced the acquisition of its first set of expellers and presses for a Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) Mill at its Delta State facility. The company disclosed on Thursday that installation is targeted for completion by the end of the third quarter of 2026, after which full-scale production of PKO and Palm Kernel Cake (PKC) will commence.

According to a statement signed by Geraldine Ofoluwa, Head of Operations, this development marks a significant milestone in Ellah Lakes’ drive to strengthen its integrated agro-industrial platform and diversify its product offerings. The company stated that the addition of PKO and PKC production will enable it to capture more value from existing oil palm activities and deepen participation across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

In the same update, Ellah Lakes revealed that its piggery operations have exceeded 1,000 pigs on site. Management attributed this growth to ongoing investments in livestock and processing infrastructure as part of broader efforts to enhance food security and employment in Delta State and the South-South region.

“This milestone supports our diversification strategy and positions Ellah Lakes as a key player in both crop processing and livestock production,” Ofoluwa said in the written statement. She added that expanded product lines would create new market opportunities for local farmers while boosting supply to processors across Nigeria.

Industry analysts say Ellah Lakes’ recent moves could make it one of the few agro-industrial firms with significant presence in both plantation crops and animal husbandry. The company stated that it plans further expansion after completing mill installation, with additional investments expected in value-added processing before year-end.

Prince Julius Ojo urges more support from Nigerians, corporates and international donors as Modupe Cole Memorial benefits

The Julicare Foundation, a Canada-based charity led by Prince Julius Ojo, has called for increased support for children living with special needs in Lagos and across Nigeria. The appeal came during a Father’s Day outreach at Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home/School in Lagos, where the foundation donated food items and essential supplies on Sunday.

During the event, Julicare Foundation also announced it would take responsibility for the salary of a nurse providing medical care to children at the institution. According to Prince Ojo, the gesture is part of ongoing efforts to address critical needs within special-needs communities who continue to face challenges due to limited funding and public awareness.

Speaking at the outreach, Ojo stressed the importance of collective action by individuals, corporate organisations and international agencies to improve the welfare of vulnerable children. “Many special-needs institutions lack basic resources required for proper care. It is time for all stakeholders to come together to bridge this gap,” he said.

Staff at Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home/School received foodstuffs and other supplies from the foundation during the visit. The foundation’s commitment to pay the salary of a medical nurse was welcomed by administrators, who described it as timely support given rising operational costs.

Julicare Foundation has been active in supporting children with disabilities in Nigeria through donations and advocacy campaigns. The organisation says it will continue engaging relevant authorities and partners to mobilise additional resources for special-needs education and healthcare. Ojo urged government at all levels to prioritise policies that address the unique challenges faced by these children, while calling on well-meaning Nigerians to support ongoing initiatives.
