Carrier to increase daily frequencies on major domestic routes as part of push to strengthen West African aviation hub status
Air Peace has announced a significant expansion of its domestic and regional operations, unveiling increased flight frequencies across key Nigerian cities and the launch of new services to four additional African destinations. The move, effective from June through August 2026, is aimed at boosting connectivity and positioning Lagos as a central hub for aviation in West and Central Africa.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Efe Osifo-Whiskey, spokesperson for Air Peace, the carrier’s revised Summer 2026 schedule will see additional capacity deployed on high-demand domestic routes. From June 22, passengers can expect up to seven daily flights between Lagos and Abuja, four daily flights linking Lagos and Owerri, three daily services between Lagos and Asaba, and two daily flights each connecting Lagos-Benin, Lagos-Warri, Lagos-Enugu, Abuja-Owerri and Abuja-Asaba.
The airline said the decision to ramp up frequencies comes in response to growing passenger demand from both business and leisure travellers. Industry analysts note that increased connectivity within Nigeria not only facilitates trade but also supports regional economic growth by providing more travel options for citizens and businesses. Air Peace’s expansion reflects broader sector efforts to position Nigeria as a competitive player in Africa’s aviation market.
Osifo-Whiskey stated that the new schedule was carefully designed to enhance travel convenience while supporting the government’s vision of establishing Lagos as a leading aviation gateway. He added that the additional regional flights would stimulate trade and tourism links between Nigeria and neighbouring countries. Details on the specific African cities being added were not disclosed in the announcement.
With this rollout, Air Peace aims to consolidate its market leadership domestically while pursuing greater presence on the continent. The airline encouraged customers to take advantage of increased frequencies when planning summer travel. Aviation stakeholders welcomed the development as a positive sign for Nigeria’s recovery post-pandemic but called on regulatory authorities to address persistent infrastructural challenges at major airports.

Bird Strike Grounds Air Peace Aircraft at Kano Airport, Passengers Disembark Safely
Incident disrupts flight operations on Thursday as emergency teams inspect runway for safety compliance in North-West city
Incident disrupts flight operations on Thursday as emergency teams inspect runway for safety compliance in North-West city
An Air Peace aircraft was forced to abort its scheduled flight and grounded at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Thursday after suffering a bird strike during take-off. The incident occurred in Kano State, North-West Nigeria, prompting the airline and airport authorities to initiate immediate safety protocols for all passengers and crew on board.
According to officials familiar with airport operations, the bird strike happened shortly after the aircraft began its take-off roll. The pilot reportedly detected an unusual sound and vibration, which led to a decision to halt further movement and return the plane safely to the terminal. All passengers were safely evacuated without any injuries reported.
Bird strikes are a recurring safety concern at several Nigerian airports, especially during early morning or late evening flights when birds are most active. Aviation experts have repeatedly called for improved wildlife management around major runways to minimise such incidents that can damage aircraft engines or delay flight schedules.
Following the incident, emergency response teams carried out a thorough inspection of both the affected aircraft and runway area to assess potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. While neither Air Peace nor airport management issued an official statement immediately after the event, operations at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport were temporarily adjusted pending further clearance from relevant aviation agencies.
Industry observers say such safety-first actions are in line with global best practices. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is expected to review investigation findings before authorising the aircraft’s return to service.

Agency highlights need for prompt service delivery as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare system across Anambra State
The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency has called on healthcare providers in the state to prioritise improved patient care and ensure prompt treatment for all enrollees under the insurance scheme. The appeal was made on Thursday, 18 June 2026, as the agency reviewed ongoing efforts to boost service quality in public and accredited private health facilities across Anambra.
According to the agency, there is growing concern over delays and perceived lapses in patient management at some centres, which could undermine public confidence in the health insurance programme. Officials noted that timely intervention remains a critical factor for positive health outcomes, urging all participating hospitals and clinics to uphold the standards set by the scheme.
The move comes at a time when many residents are depending on the state’s insurance scheme for affordable access to medical services. The agency stressed that effective implementation is vital for reducing out-of-pocket expenses and advancing universal health coverage targets in Anambra. “We want every enrollee to receive timely and quality care without unnecessary obstacles,” a senior official stated.
The agency further reminded accredited providers that adherence to service guidelines is mandatory, warning that complaints about undue delays or poor attitudes would attract sanctions. Stakeholders were encouraged to report any issues encountered while seeking care under the scheme so they can be promptly addressed by relevant authorities.
Looking ahead, the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency pledged continued monitoring of facilities and engagement with both patients and providers. The agency assured residents that it remains committed to ensuring everyone enrolled gets value from the scheme while working to strengthen healthcare delivery across all local government areas.

Harry Kane wrote his name in the history books as he led England to a thrilling 2–1 win over Croatia in their FIFA World Cup opener on Thursday. The match, played at the Arena in Doha, saw the English side claim three points in Group D, delighting fans across Nigeria who gathered at viewing centres, including Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The encounter started with high intensity as England pressed early, but it was Kane who broke the deadlock just before half-time, scoring his 12th World Cup goal and surpassing Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time top scorer at the tournament. Croatia responded after the break with a well-taken equaliser, but substitute Bukayo Saka restored England’s lead late in the second half to secure all three points for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Kane’s latest record has generated excitement among Nigerian football fans, many of whom have followed his rise since his debut for Tottenham Hotspur. England have now put themselves in a strong position to qualify from Group D, which also features Morocco and Australia.
Reacting after the match, Southgate praised his players’ resilience: “We showed great character today. Harry’s achievement is special for English football.” Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic admitted his team must improve ahead of their next fixture. Nigerian Super Eagles legend Joseph Yobo said Kane’s performance would inspire young African strikers: “He keeps breaking records and showing how to lead from the front.”
England will face Morocco next while Croatia are set to meet Australia. The Three Lions’ victory has set expectations high among supporters both at home and in Nigeria, where football remains a unifying passion.
