The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers and the recovery of substantial quantities of substances believed to be illicit drugs in a recent operation along the Ozoro-Oleh Expressway. The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Friday, 14 June 2026, as operatives from the Command’s Anti-Vice Squad conducted routine stop-and-search duties in Isoko North Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, police officers intercepted a Toyota Sienna minivan bearing registration number FST 242 YK during their early morning patrols. While officers were conducting checks and questioning the driver, the suspect reportedly abandoned the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush before he could be apprehended. A subsequent search of the abandoned car revealed several packages containing substances suspected to be prohibited drugs, including codeine-based products.
SP Edafe explained that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to rid Delta State of criminal activities and curb drug trafficking that threatens public safety. The arrest comes amid rising concerns over violent crime and substance abuse in parts of Delta and other South-South states. Security experts have repeatedly warned that the link between armed robbery and illicit drug use fuels insecurity and poses significant risks to residents.
In his official statement released on Monday, Edafe praised the Anti-Vice Squad for their vigilance and called on members of the public to provide timely information that could lead to further arrests. He also assured that investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing suspects linked to the syndicate. “We remain committed to making Delta State unsafe for criminal elements,” he said.
The police command has handed over recovered exhibits for forensic analysis while efforts continue to identify accomplices and dismantle related networks across neighbouring LGAs. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly to security agencies as police intensify patrols in flashpoint areas.

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two individuals suspected of vandalising electric cables in Ndokwa West Local Government Area on Tuesday, 25 June. The suspects were apprehended around 10:30pm along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road following a joint operation involving officers from Kwale Police Station and members of the local vigilante group.
According to a statement issued by Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the security team acted swiftly on credible intelligence that some persons were removing and stealing electric cables in the area. Upon sighting law enforcement, the suspects attempted to flee the scene, resulting in one of them sustaining injuries during the pursuit. The injured suspect is currently receiving medical attention, while the other is in police custody.
Cable vandalism has become a significant concern in Delta State and across Nigeria, often leading to prolonged power outages and financial losses for communities. The state government has repeatedly called for increased vigilance by residents and closer collaboration with security agencies to combat such crimes.
SP Edafe stated that investigations are ongoing to determine if other individuals are involved in the syndicate. “We urge members of the public to continue providing timely information that can help us protect public infrastructure,” Edafe said in Thursday’s press release.
The police command assured residents that efforts will be intensified to prevent further incidents of cable theft in Ndokwa West and neighbouring communities. Authorities also reminded residents that anyone found engaging in vandalism or aiding such activities would face prosecution according to Nigerian law.

According to Trump, the US military operations significantly reduced attacks on Christian communities in Borno and neighbouring states, which had been facing repeated assaults from ISWAP fighters. He said, “As you know, we recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations. They have a great Christian population. They were being butchered—thousands and thousands of people were being killed, children, women, old people, just being slaughtered, hacked to death.”
Trump added that the American intervention sent a strong warning to the militants responsible for these attacks. He claimed the strikes discouraged further violence against religious minorities in the region.
