The EFF chieftain stated that the wave of xenophobic incidents targeting migrants from Nigeria and other African nations is not just spontaneous but allegedly encouraged by certain elements within the government. He insisted that without government backing, such acts would not persist across multiple provinces.
Xenophobic attacks in South Africa have drawn concern from across the continent, with many Nigerians affected by looting and destruction of property during past incidents. Malema’s comments highlight ongoing fears about the safety of Nigerians living and working in South Africa. The Nigerian community and diplomatic officials have repeatedly called on South African authorities to take decisive action to protect all residents irrespective of nationality.
Malema said during a public address that, “The violence we are witnessing is not accidental; it is state-sponsored. As long as the government continues to fuel this agenda, our African brothers and sisters will never find peace in South Africa.”
There has yet to be an official response from the South African government regarding these allegations. However, previous statements from authorities have condemned all forms of xenophobia and promised investigations into reported incidents. Observers say sustained international pressure may be necessary to ensure lasting protection for foreign nationals in South Africa.

The abduction and subsequent death of a high-profile former security official underscores persistent insecurity across Kaduna and neighbouring states, where kidnappings for ransom have become rampant. Efforts to reach police authorities in Kaduna for comment were unsuccessful as at time of filing this report. According to eyewitnesses, the armed group stormed the village in the early hours, shooting sporadically and targeting houses. Multiple sources reported that several people lost their lives, though exact casualty figures remain unclear as at press time. Residents said dozens fled to neighbouring communities for safety while security operatives were later deployed to restore calm.
Niger State has faced persistent attacks by armed groups in recent years, with Shiroro LGA among the hardest hit areas. The latest incident has heightened fears among locals and further strained humanitarian resources in the North-Central state. Many villagers have abandoned their farms and homes amid ongoing threats from insurgents and bandits operating in the region.
