Rapid response by Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensures no casualties as only one vehicle damaged in incident

A fire broke out on the third floor of the Polaris Bank Tower at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Tuesday, prompting workers to flee for safety. The incident, which occurred around 11:33 a.m., involved a stationary saloon car parked within the multi-storey building’s car park. Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service officials responded swiftly, dispatching firefighters from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations to the scene.

According to the service, the prompt intervention ensured that the blaze was contained before it could spread to other vehicles or sections of the 17-storey structure. Only the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings sustained damage. No casualties or injuries were reported during or after the operation, which was completed in good time.

The Polaris Bank Tower serves as both office space and parking facility for businesses operating in Lagos Island’s commercial hub. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about fire safety in high-rise buildings across Lagos State, where dense development and heavy daily traffic increase risk.
