The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) on Tuesday unveiled a blended finance framework aimed at increasing private sector lending to agriculture in Nigeria. The announcement was made during a workshop for fund managers held in Lagos, as the agency moved to attract more private capital into the nation’s critical agriculture sector.
The event, organised by NADF in partnership with Convergence Blended Finance, brought together stakeholders from across the financial industry. NADF said the framework is designed to reduce risks associated with agricultural investments and open up new opportunities for financiers within Nigeria’s financial system.
Speaking at the launch, Mohammed A. Ibrahim, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NADF—represented by the Fund’s General Manager for Partnerships and Investor Relations, Nasir Ingawa—stressed that transforming Nigerian agriculture would require resources beyond what government alone can provide. “Agriculture is central to Nigeria’s food security, job creation, industrial growth, export potential and prosperity,” Ibrahim said. He added that more engagement from private investors is necessary to realise these goals.
The blended finance approach combines public and private funds to support agribusinesses, helping mitigate risks that traditionally discourage banks and investors from committing long-term capital. This move comes as farmers and processors continue to face challenges accessing affordable credit for expansion and modernisation.
Industry experts at the workshop welcomed the new framework but cautioned that sustained policy support and clear regulatory guidelines will be vital for success. NADF said it will continue stakeholder engagement sessions nationwide as it seeks to expand access to financing across all segments of Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

The United States Mission has issued a fresh advisory to American citizens residing in Nigeria, detailing the procedures for replacing lost or stolen passports in Abuja and Lagos. The guidance, released on Monday by officials from both the US Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos, comes amid increased travel activity and concerns over document security.
According to the mission, affected US citizens are expected to promptly report incidents of passport loss or theft and begin the replacement process through official channels. The advisory states that while applicants are encouraged to obtain a police report from the station closest to where the incident occurred, this step may not be compulsory for every case.
To initiate the replacement, applicants must book an in-person appointment at either the embassy in Abuja or the consulate in Lagos. Requirements include completing Form DS-11 (application for a US passport) and Form DS-64 (report of lost or stolen passport). Additionally, applicants will be required to present proof of US citizenship, a valid form of identification, and a recent passport photograph that meets US specifications.
Officials stressed that timely reporting is essential to avoid disruptions to travel plans. The mission also reminded US citizens that failure to follow the outlined procedures could delay their ability to return home or continue travel. No comment was available from Nigerian immigration authorities as at press time regarding collaboration on these cases.
The advisory comes at a time when international travel has seen an uptick among dual nationals and expatriates living within Nigeria’s major urban centres. The embassy reiterated its commitment to providing consular assistance, stating that affected individuals should consult its official website for appointment bookings and further instructions.

Four newly elected senators were officially sworn in on Wednesday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, marking their formal entry into the Senate. The lawmakers took their oaths of office during plenary, following established legislative protocols.
The ceremony was conducted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who administered the oath and welcomed the new members into the chamber. After the swearing-in, the senators were assigned seats and introduced to ongoing legislative matters for immediate participation.
The induction of the four lawmakers comes at a time when Nigerians are paying close attention to parliamentary developments, especially as several senatorial seats have changed hands due to court decisions or by-elections. Their arrival is expected to impact committee assignments and voting dynamics within the upper chamber, with observers noting that such changes often reflect broader political shifts at both state and national levels.

Corps recovers seven stolen phones, foils attempt to move valuables to Lagos as third suspect is detained
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended a couple for allegedly breaking into the country home of former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, in Okitipupa Local Government Area. The arrest took place after the incident was reported last week, with the suspects caught as they attempted to move stolen items out of the town.
According to Amotekun officials, Samson Osowe, aged 28, and his wife Ayo Oguneso, 22, were arrested through an intelligence-led operation that tracked seven stolen mobile phones and other valuables. The security operatives intercepted a transporter who was preparing to take the items from Okitipupa to Lagos for resale. The agency confirmed that all items stolen from Akindele’s residence have been recovered.
The incident has raised concerns over persistent property crimes targeting political figures and high-profile individuals in Ondo South Senatorial District. Residents say such cases highlight gaps in conventional policing and underline the importance of community-based security outfits like Amotekun Corps in the South-West region.
Speaking while parading the suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure on Monday, Commander Adetunji Adeleye said: “I’m happy to let you know that all the phones stolen are here in front of the suspects, and the two suspects involved have confessed. Our operatives acted swiftly on intelligence which led to their arrest and also helped us apprehend an accomplice involved in the transportation.” Adeleye added that investigations are ongoing and those found culpable will be handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Adeleye urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies. He assured that Amotekun Corps remains committed to protecting lives and property across Ondo State. As at press time, police authorities had not issued an official statement on whether additional suspects are being sought.
