Nigeria’s postal sector recorded a significant boost in revenue, rising by 167 percent in the year 2025, according to new data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday. The report highlighted notable growth in earnings from both traditional mail and digital service offerings, marking a major turnaround for the country’s postal system.
The NBS disclosed these figures during its latest sectoral performance briefing held in Abuja. Officials attributed the sharp revenue increase to ongoing reforms within the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), which has recently adopted enhanced tracking systems and expanded e-commerce partnerships. The agency also pointed out that improved delivery infrastructure and the integration of new technology contributed significantly to the sector’s financial performance over the past year.
This development comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with broader economic challenges, including high inflation and fluctuating naira exchange rates. Postal services, once considered a declining industry due to the proliferation of digital communication, have found renewed relevance as online shopping and logistics demand rise sharply nationwide. According to NBS analysts, the growth signals a shift towards more diversified revenue streams within Nigeria’s service sector.
The NBS further stated that reforms are ongoing to ensure transparency and efficiency in postal operations. “We have seen an unprecedented jump in revenue as at 2025, which reflects public confidence in revamped postal services,” an NBS spokesperson said at the briefing. However, experts have urged government to sustain investments in infrastructure and regulatory oversight, warning that inconsistent policy or underfunding could stall progress made so far.
Looking ahead, sector stakeholders expect continued growth if current reforms are maintained and state-level logistics bottlenecks are addressed.
