Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed excitement at the arrival of fellow Nigerian, Zadok Yohanna, at Brighton & Hove Albion, promising to help the teenager adapt to life in England after his transfer from Swedish side AIK Stockholm.

Nnadozie, speaking from Nigeria following the Super Falcons’ recent friendly wins against Senegal, told ESPN she was delighted to have another Nigerian join her at Brighton. The 18-year-old winger signed a five-year deal with the Premier League club, choosing the Seagulls over interest from Newcastle United, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig. According to Nnadozie, Brighton’s regular joint activities for men’s and women’s teams will make it easier for Yohanna to feel at home: “Sometimes both teams… go for these bonding ceremonies… if there’s a player from one country on our team, and there’s a male player from the same country in the male team, they will just pair them together on the table so they get to chat and talk to each other. So it’s really good for me to have a Nigerian mate in the team.”

For Super Eagles and Super Falcons supporters, Yohanna’s move is another sign of young Nigerian talent breaking into top European football. The teenager cited Brighton’s reputation for developing youth as a key factor in his decision. Manager Fabian Hurzeler described Yohanna as a creative threat in attack and tipped him to excite fans in the Premier League.

Nnadozie said she plans to support Yohanna personally when she returns to England: “When I first saw the news online, I was really happy for him… he’s been through a lot and he knows where he came from. Also, it’s just so nice to have a Nigerian mate in the team.”

Neither AIK Stockholm nor Brighton had released further details on transfer fees or debut dates at press time. Fans will be watching closely as Yohanna links up with Nnadozie ahead of pre-season training.
