Lagos Police Launch Probe After Live Ammunition Delivered to First Bank MD’s Ikoyi Residence
Commissioner Tijani Fatai says investigation ongoing; security agencies tighten surveillance around top bank executive’s home
Commissioner Tijani Fatai says investigation ongoing; security agencies tighten surveillance around top bank executive’s home
The Lagos State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the delivery of a parcel containing two live rounds of ammunition to the Ikoyi residence of First Bank of Nigeria Managing Director, Oluwasegun Alebiosu. The incident, which occurred on 7 May 2026, was confirmed by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Monday.
According to Commissioner Fatai, the suspicious parcel was initially received by a security guard on behalf of Mr. Alebiosu. Upon opening the package, the bank executive discovered two live bullets inside and promptly reported the matter to law enforcement authorities. The police have since intensified efforts to identify those behind the delivery and determine their motives.
This development has raised concerns about the security of high-profile individuals in Lagos, particularly within the banking sector. Security analysts note that while threats against business leaders are not uncommon, direct delivery of live ammunition is rare and signals possible intimidation or attempted extortion. The incident comes at a time when stakeholders are calling for enhanced protection for executives amid rising insecurity in major cities across Nigeria.
Addressing journalists, Commissioner Fatai described the case as serious and assured that detectives from the command’s Criminal Investigation Department are working diligently. “There is a case like that which we are presently investigating,” he said. The police have increased surveillance around Mr. Alebiosu’s residence and advised other prominent figures to be vigilant. As at press time, no arrests had been made, and investigations were ongoing.
The Lagos State Police Command has urged members of the public with any relevant information to come forward to assist with investigations. Authorities say updates will be provided as new findings emerge.

Project aims to restore iconic sports complex, with LSSTF chairman Wahid Oshodi highlighting its role in grassroots talent development
Project aims to restore iconic sports complex, with LSSTF chairman Wahid Oshodi highlighting its role in grassroots talent development
The Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) has commenced the rehabilitation of the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex at Rowe Park, Yaba, focusing on the full renovation of its Indoor Sports Hall and long-neglected squash courts. The initiative began with an official inspection of the facility on Monday by key stakeholders, including LSSTF Chairman Wahid Oshodi and representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
During the inspection, Oshodi described Rowe Park as the “heartbeat of grassroots sports in Lagos,” noting its historic contribution to nurturing athletes who have risen to national prominence. He emphasised that revitalising the complex aligns with government’s broader agenda to enhance sports infrastructure across the state and provide more opportunities for youth engagement.
Rowe Park has served as a major centre for sports development in Nigeria for decades, hosting numerous tournaments and training camps that produced top-level talents. However, years of underfunding and neglect had left parts of the facility dilapidated, with the squash courts and indoor hall particularly affected. The ongoing rehabilitation is expected to upgrade these facilities to modern standards and restore their capacity for hosting both local and national events.
Speaking at the event, Lekan Fatodu, Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), expressed optimism about the impact of the project. “This renovation will not only bring Rowe Park back to life but also inspire a new generation of athletes,” Fatodu stated. Olaposi Agunbiade, Executive Secretary of LSSTF, reiterated that maintenance plans are being put in place to ensure sustainability after completion.
The project is scheduled for phased completion, with work on the squash courts prioritised due to their current state. The LSSTF said further details on funding sources and timelines will be announced as work progresses. Stakeholders in Lagos sporting community have welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step towards reclaiming Lagos’ position as a hub for sports excellence.

Managing Director Gbadegesin says move will reduce turnaround time and improve service delivery across Lagos metropolis
Managing Director Gbadegesin says move will reduce turnaround time and improve service delivery across Lagos metropolis
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in partnership with ZoomLion Nigeria Limited, has commenced initial stabilisation works at the Olusosun refuse facility in Ojota, Lagos, aiming to restore full operations on Road E for improved waste evacuation. The development was confirmed on Monday by LAWMA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin.
According to Gbadegesin, the intervention is targeted at enhancing access for waste disposal trucks, reducing turnaround time at the dumpsite, and improving overall operational efficiency within Lagos State. He acknowledged existing challenges in evacuating refuse from some areas of the state but assured residents that government was deploying immediate, medium-term, and long-term measures to address these issues.
The Olusosun facility in Ojota remains a critical hub for waste management within the South-West region, serving both public and private sector operators. Recent operational difficulties had led to a backlog in waste evacuation across parts of Lagos metropolis, prompting calls from residents and environmental groups for urgent action. The ongoing stabilisation project forms part of a broader strategy to ensure cleaner neighbourhoods and more reliable refuse collection services.
Gbadegesin stated that LAWMA is working closely with technical partners like ZoomLion to ensure that infrastructure upgrades at the site are completed promptly. He reiterated government’s commitment to maintaining a dirt-free environment in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s agenda for sustainable urban management. The agency also reassured members of the public that all necessary measures are being taken to clear any accumulated refuse and restore normalcy to affected communities.
With preliminary works now underway at Olusosun, LAWMA advised residents to continue cooperating with its personnel and adhere strictly to waste disposal guidelines. Further updates on the progress of rehabilitation efforts are expected in the coming weeks as authorities intensify efforts towards achieving an efficient waste management system in Lagos State.

Favour Ashe Sets National Record, Wins 100m Title at Lagos Commonwealth Trials

Ashe and Fakorede both break 10-second barrier on Nigerian soil, marking first double feat since 2003
Favour Ashe stormed to a historic victory in the men’s 100 metres at the Commonwealth Games national trials held in Lagos on Sunday, clocking a personal best of 9.93 seconds (+0.5) to clinch the title. The event, which concluded yesterday at the national stadium, saw Ashe become the fastest Nigerian man ever to win the national championships and the fastest sprinter on home soil.
Ashe, sponsored to the trials by Delta State government and arriving from Qatar just two days before the race, delivered on his pre-event promise with a blistering performance. Nicholas Fakorede finished closely behind in second place with a personal best of 9.98 seconds, making both athletes the first Nigerians to break the 10-second barrier in the same race at a national championship.
This achievement echoes a milestone last set in 2003, when Deji Aliu and Uchenna Emedolu went sub-10 seconds during the African Games in Abuja. For many athletics observers, this double feat signals renewed hope for Nigeria’s sprinting fortunes ahead of international competitions such as the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking after his win, Ashe described his victory as “a dream come true” and credited his preparation and support from Delta State for making it possible. Athletics officials present at the event hailed both athletes’ performances as a major boost for Team Nigeria’s prospects. “This is what we have been waiting for; two home-grown talents running sub-10 on Nigerian soil,” an official said during post-race interviews.
With these results, Nigeria’s athletics federation is expected to finalise its team list for upcoming international competitions. Stakeholders say attention will now shift to ensuring adequate preparations and support for the country’s top sprinters as they look to build on this momentum.
